Forging a close partnership with Google Arts & Culture as its sole VR provider

Problem

Google’s projects are as varied as they are plentiful. They include Google Arts & Culture which brings the world’s art and culture online through virtual tours of museums, theatres and other relevant locations. As the project has taken on global proportions, Google has faced an increasing amount of back-end work. The tech company decided to outsource the production of high-resolution imagery of artworks and cultural artefacts. Enter Rhapsody.

Solution

Since 2022, Rhapsody agency have been responsible for sourcing qualified experts to create the VR tours. After on-boarding the team, we also manage the shoot process. No two shoots are the same: for each one, we have to work within specific timeframes, taking into account special requirements for the location in question. Finally, we classify the assets and prepare them for further editing.

Results

We rapidly became the sole VR provider for Google Arts & Culture. In 2022, we spent 158 days on the project. We have in so far operated in 14 countries with 36 different photographers. The project has expanded across Europe, North and South America as well as Africa and into Asia working in locations including Germany, Portugal, UK, Lithuania, Latvia, Turkey, Poland, Czech Republic, Estonia and Mexico... and more!

Lights, Camera, Action

Our first project for Google was to create a virtual tour of the Wieliczka salt mines in Poland. This then led to us creating other virtual walks with other partner cultural organisations in Europe, including in the Czech Republic, Latvia and Portugal. Since then, we have helped to digitally document the world’s most exciting sites and artefacts at locations including the Museo Paleontológico de Santa Lucia.
